Resurrecting St Eligius

I’m currently studying the iconography of another Early Netherlandish painting known as “A Goldsmith in his Shop” by Petrus Christus. At one time it was accepted that the goldsmith depicted St Eligius but recent research has suggested otherwise.

However, my findings lead me to conclude that St Eligius does figure in the painting – as well as St Joan of Arc, the French heroine, a cardinal, a king, and a Greek god!
