Pope Francis welcomed Medjugorje messengers
As Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio also welcomed the Franciscan priest Fr Danko Perutina during his mission to Argentina last year. Fr Danko is a pastor in the Medjugorje parish and mc’s the annual Youth Festival.
Our new Pope has also previously welcomed the former parish priest of Medjugorje Fr Jozo Zovko during a mission to Argentina during the late 90’s. Speaking to Ivan Ugrin of the Croatian newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija, the former parish priest of Medjugorje recalls his visit to Argentina and time spent with “Fr Jorge”:
“We hung out together and talked about everything in Buenos Aires. He was interested in everything. We prayed together and at the end he asked me for a blessing. I touched one fine and good man. He’s a good choice for the Church that is getting better, and there is no better person than Francis to rebuild the Church. The gift of Pope Francis to the Church is the fruit of grace during this time. He dares to talk about our failures.”
“The new Pope has called for prayer and his first move was presenting Our Lady with a bouquet of flowers [at Basilica of St Mary Major]. There is a man who, like Mary at Cana, sees and feels and knows where to go. We need such people who are deeply rooted in prayer. He holds a rosary in his hand and draws on the Gospel. It is the key that opens all closed doors, and the Pope is showing us the way.”
Sr Emmanuel also confirms that for three years another Franciscan from Hercegovina, Fr Berislav Ostojic was the Pope’s confessor.
And, of course, it will be Pope Francis who will review the results of the Vatican Commission on Medjugorje.
