Roberto Mancini, coach of English football champions Manchester City arrived in Medjugorje today for his second visit to the Herzegovian village this year. His previous pilgrimage was a three-day visit in March with his wife and daughter.
This time Mancini is part of a 40-strong group of pilgrims travelling under the auspices of the charity Olympics Games of the Heart. Also in the group is Antonio Percassi, president of the Italian football club Atalanta and the popular Italian singer Umberto Tozzi – close friends of Mancini.
Entrepreneurs linked with the charity founded by Paolo Brosio, the journalist and TV celebrity are also among the group of 40 pilgrims who travelled to Mostar this morning by private jet made available by Percassi.

During a press conference this afternoon, Mancini spoke warmly about his previous visit to Medjugorje and remembered with affection his meetings with the visionaries, praying the Way of the Cross on Mt Krizevac, Holy Mass – which he described as “special in Medjugorje”, and also the peace that could be found in prayer. He also spoke about the current Euro 2012 football championship and made mention of rival Manchester United’s bid for the Croatian player Luka Modric.
This evening, around the time of Our Lady’s apparition, Mancini and others spent time in prayer at the Blue Cross. Earlier they visited a local orphanage.
