Hope in the Light...
This is the time of year when we look back on the past 12 months and turn our attention to the new year and what may lie ahead. According to the sages and pundits, even the experts, there is not much to hope for, especially on the economic front. Hard times, we are repeatedly informed, will continue into 2012.
So where is the good news to be found? Where is the chink of light to be seen in the darkness and gloom predicted to hang over us for a considerable time to come?
It is interesting to recall that less than a year ago Our Lady was telling us that she was not losing hope that the world will change for good and that peace will reign in the hearts of men. That was in January. This month, December, in her final message of the year she speaks again of God’s peace prevailing in the hearts of men, not the peace that the world brings but the peace that comes from God. Big difference.
So amid all the turmoil of the current year we learn from Our Lady that there are people living in peace amid the chaos and hardship of everyday existence in this world, who take steps to live in the promised joy of Jesus and desire to share this grace with others.
Throughout the year Our Lady has encouraged us to become a witness of God’s peace in this world, so that joy will begin to reign, but she makes it very clear that to achieve the peace her Son offers to everyone, we must first start with our own daily conversion; we become a witness to others by our own example. It’s hard to give a good example to anyone if we lack joy and peace in our own heart so, as Our Lady reminds us in her February message, we must work on our own conversion if we are to be a sign and incentive to others.
This was the constant theme of Our Lady’s monthly messages throughout the year – to give witness to the peace and joy of God through our own conversion and to be a light for others.
In March Our Lady made another call to conversion, to say ‘yes’ and begin a new life. In April she said she was praying unceasingly for our lives on earth to be a reflection of Heaven. In May she was praying for all of us to seek the grace of conversion, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In her anniversary message of June 25 Our Lady confirmed that many have responded to her call for conversion but she is still waiting for hearts to awaken from the sleep of unbelief. There is some consolation in July when Our Lady says there is much good in our hearts, but she also asks we allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit so this goodness can blossom and bear much fruit.
And then in August she asks the hearts who have said “yes” to be strong and resolute in difficult times, especially as there is an enormous number of souls who have still not listened to or accepted her call to peace through conversion. In September Our Lady called for everyone to give witness to the love of God and his gifts, and testify to this joy with our words and deeds. October was no exception; another call to conversion and to experience the joy of the Risen One. In November, Our Lady expressed her desire to give us hope and joy, not through the attraction of worldly things, but through God’s grace. Finally, we reach December and the last message of the current year, another reminder that the peace our soul desires is not the peace of the world but the peace that God gives, and we are invited to be witness to this peace, to be Our Lady’s extended hands to the world which yearns for God and peace.
• In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things came to be, not one thing had its being but through him. All that came to be had life in him and that life was the light of men, a light that shines in the dark, a light that shines in the dark, a light that darkness could not overpower. A man came, sent by God. His name was John. He came as a witness, as a witness to speak for the light, so that everyone might believe through him. He was not the light, only a witness to the light.
John 1 : 1-8
Dear children! Also today, in my arms I am carrying my Son Jesus to you, for him to give you his peace. Pray, little children, and witness so that in every heart, not human but God’s peace may prevail, which no one can destroy. It is that peace in the heart which God gives to those whom he loves. By your baptism you are all, in a special way called and loved, therefore witness and pray that you may be my extended hands to this world which yearns for God and peace. Thank you for having responded to my call. Medjugorje message, December 25, 2011

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
Dear children! This is a time of grace for the family and, therefore, I call you to renew prayer. May Jesus be in the heart of your family. In prayer, learn to love everything that is holy. Imitate the lives of saints so that they may be an incentive and teachers on the way of holiness. May every family become a witness of love in this world without prayer and peace. Thank you for having responded to my call. Medjugorje message, October 25, 2004
The Lord honours the father in his children, and upholds the rights of a mother over her sons. Whoever respects his father is atoning for his sins, he who honours his mother is like someone amassing a fortune. Whoever respects his father will be happy with children of his own, he shall be heard on the day when he prays. Long life comes to him who honours his father, he who sets his mother at ease is showing obedience to the Lord. My son, support your father in his old age, do not grieve him during his life. Even if his mind should fail, show him sympathy, do not despise him in your health and strength; for kindness to a father shall not be forgotten but will serve as reparation for your sins. Ecclesiasticus 3 : 2-6, 12-14• Images show a young Lebanese family on their first visit to Medjugorje, and the statue of the Holy Family in the Adoration Chapel at Medjugorje.

Our Lady’s annual apparition to Jakov Colo
This was the message Our Lady gave today to the Jakov Colo. The Medjugorje visionary receives an annual apparition from the Queen of Peace on December 25. Today’s apparition began around 3:30pm and lasted 11 minutes.
Dear children! Today, in a special way, I desire to take you to and give you over to my Son. Little children, open your hearts and permit Jesus to be born in you, because only in this way, little children, you yourselves will be able to experience your new birth and set out with Jesus in your hearts towards the way of salvation. Thank you for having responded to my call. Message to Jakov Colo, December 25, 2011

The message of peace...
Peace, peace, only peace!
Reconcile yourselves.
Peace must take place between
God and man and between men...

Secure in Jesus Christ
In the early hours of this morning when I was unable to find sleep, I found myself instead pondering on the uncertainties in life, especially my own, and was reminded of something I posted some three years ago under the title of “Joyful Mysteries of Uncertainty”.
Sleep did not arrive until dawn this morning, disturbed by dreams of disharmony.
Late this morning, I received two joyful emails... photos of my grandson, and a wonderful blessing via the Henry Nouwen Society shedding light on the thoughts that had occupied my mind and heart during my restless night. Here it is:
HOLDING ON TO THE CHRIST
Life is unpredictable. We can be happy one day and sad the next, healthy one day and sick the next, rich one day and poor the next, alive one day and dead the next. So who is there to hold on to? Who is there to feel secure with? Who is there to trust at all times?
Only Jesus, the Christ. He is our Lord, our shepherd, our rock, our stronghold, our refuge, our brother, our guide, and our friend. He came from God to be with us. He died for us, he was raised from the dead to open for us the way to God, and he is seated at God's right hand to welcome us home. With Paul, we must be certain that “neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nothing already in existence and nothing still to come, nor any power, nor the heights nor the depths, nor any created thing whatever, will be able to come between us and the love of God, known to us in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
Dear children; Today I call you to be born anew in prayer and through the Holy Spirit, to become a new people with my Son; a people who knows that if they have lost God, they have lost themselves; a people who knows that, with God, despite all sufferings and trials, they are secure and saved. I call you to gather into God’s family and to be strengthened with the Father’s strength. As individuals, my children, you cannot stop the evil that wants to begin to rule in this world and to destroy it. But, according to God’s will, all together, with my Son, you can change everything and heal the world. I call you to pray with all your heart for your shepherds, because my Son chose them. Thank you. Offered to all...
• This meditation arrived in my mailbox this morning, and I share it with you. It was sent by the Henri Nouwen Society.
An experience offered to all
Some people say: “I never had an experience of the fullness of time... I am just an ordinary person, not a mystic.” Although some people have unique experiences of God’s presence and, therefore have unique missions to announce God’s presence to the world, all of us – whether learned or uneducated, rich or poor, visible or hidden – can receive the grace of seeing God in the fullness of time. This mystical experience, is not reserved for a few exceptional people. God wants to offer that gift in one way or another to all God's children.
But we must desire it. We must be attentive and interiorly alert. For some people the experience of the fullness of time comes in a spectacular way, as it did to St. Paul when he fell to the ground on his way to Damascus (Acts 9:3-4). But for some of us it comes like a murmuring sound or a gentle breeze touching our backs (1 Kings 19:13). God loves us all and wants us all to know this in a most personal way.
Dear children! Today I am calling you to renew your hearts. Open yourselves to God and surrender to him all your difficulties and crosses so, God may turn everything into joy. Little children, you cannot open yourselves to God if you do not pray. Therefore, from today, decide to consecrate a time in the day only for an encounter with God in silence. In that way you will be able, with God, to witness my presence here. Little children, I do not wish to force you. Rather freely give God your time, like children of God. Thank you for having responded to my call.

Sent by God....
The angel replied, “I am Gabriel who stands in God’s presence, and I have been sent to speak to you and bring you this good news.” Luke 1 : 19
Dear children! Today I call you to love. Little children, without love you can neither live with God nor with brother. Therefore, I call all of you to open your hearts to the love of God that is so great and open to each one of you. God, out of love for man, has sent me among you to show you the path of salvation, the path of love. If you do not first love God, then you will neither be able to love neighbour nor the one you hate. Therefore, little children, pray and through prayer you will discover love. Thank you for having responded to my call. Medjugorje message given by Mary, Queen of Angels, April 25, 1995

Nothing is impossible to God...
Know this too: your kinswoman Elizabeth has, in her old age, herself conceived a son, and she who people called barren is now in her sixth month, for nothing is impossible to God. Luke 1 : 36-37
I was at church this evening when the words of today’s Gospel for this fourth Sunday of Advent came alive before Mass had even begun.
I always sit near to a husband and wife who are keen athletes. Tonight the couple became three when they brought along their daughter, born just four days ago. Mum and dad are more than excited about this surprising and treasured gift, having patiently waited in joyful expectation for a very long time – 25 years, in fact! The father is 50 years old, the mother 48. Nothing is impossible to God!

The Presence of Love...
Master, do you not care? Mark 4 : 39
Dear children! Give thanks with me to the Most High for my presence with you. My heart is joyful watching the love and joy in the living of my messages. Many of you have responded, but I wait for, and seek, all the hearts that have fallen asleep to awaken from the sleep of unbelief. Little children, draw even closer to my Immaculate Heart so that I can lead all of you toward eternity. Thank you for having responded to my call. Medjugorje message, June 25, 2011

when he takes my hand
is all I can hope
to ever understand.

There’s a picture...
PICTURE ON MY WALL
There’s a picture on my wall,
So serene, it’s beautiful,
And when I gaze, it seems to call
me to peace.
I’m told it comes from far away,
A place called Medjugorje.
Hope to travel there some day
and find peace.
This picture shows a lady’s face.
They say that she is full of grace,
And a mother to embrace.
She brings peace.
Gentle smile as she looks down,
Clothed in pink and sky-blue gown,
Upon her head a 12-star crown,
Queen of Peace.
Holy Lady on my wall,
Most blessed woman over all,
I shall answer to your call,
Yes to peace.

Then there were two...
It seems that FOUR of the group of established Medjugorje seers have now appeared before the Vatican Commission set up to examine the Medjugorje phenomenon.
According to local Medjugorje guide Anita Pehar, the four seers, Ivanka, Marija, Vicka, and Mirjana were called before the commission in pairs, and now only two from the group of six visionaries remain to be interviewed, Ivan and Jakov.

Know how to weep...
A sacrament like confession cannot be understood without practising and living it. Confession does not exist in theory, but as a practical gift and a grace that is felt and lived.
Confession means that a person has decided to serve only one Master and to destroy the idols he has created.
The Egyptians did not build the golden calf. Israel did. Evil exists in us; it is ours personally. To confess is to acknowledge our true and only God, our Path and Security, and our love for Him. That is, we truly acknowledge God as the only God.
And I say to my God, “If with my weakness I have fallen, I must confess it. I was convinced that Yaweh would never return and through my hatred toward God I have built an idol which has enslaved me.”
God is freeing you now. God is concrete. He is a Person; He is Jesus. Let us look within ourselves to see if we truly have no other, if we are children and know our true Father.
When we pray with our heart we know God. When we pray superficially we take the name of God in vain. When God’s people confess, satan flees; he takes refuge from the name of God.
Confessing means not only relating our shortcomings and our sins; it means being resurrected from the tomb to a new life of peace, salvation and light. To confess means not only to acknowledge errors but to understand that we are spiritually sterile and want to begin bearing fruits as Zacchaeus did. I have found my Master. I am renouncing everything; I will remain with Him alone.
Confessing before God does not mean looking at the past; it means knowing how to lament our lack of love toward God and our neighbour.

Our Lady’s December message to Mirjana
Dear children, as a mother I am with you so that with my love, prayer and example I may help you to become a seed of the future, a seed that will grow into a firm tree and spread it's branches throughout the world. For you to become a seed of the future, a seed of love, implore the Father to forgive you your omissions up to now. My children, only a pure heart, unburdened by sin, can open itself and only honest eyes can see the way by which I desire to lead you. When you become aware of this, you will become aware of the love of God – it will be given to you. Then you will give it to others, as a seed of love. Thank you. December 2, 2011
• In this latest message given to Mirjana, Our Lady speaks about receiving and giving the seed of love.
At Christmas we give and receive gifts; tokens of our love and friendship for each other, an outward sign that expresses the generous love all hearts receive from God.
Some of us may be given vouchers to redeem for gifts of our choice, usually to a certain value. But while the monetary value of the voucher may have a limit, the seed sown in this act of giving and receiving does not. It is planted, and when nurtured can grow.
The child Jesus grew from a seed, the Word of God, planted in the womb of Mary, a gift she desires to share with the world. She nurtured this gift for many years and watched Jesus growing in wisdom, in stature and in favour with God and men (Luke 2 : 52). Mary’s gift was also her surrender, saying yes to the will of God. Her Son also surrendered his will to the Father and so became a redeeming gift for the world.
He was and is the Tree of Life from which we are all invited to eat of the fruit. He is our forever Christmas Tree.
Our Lady also desires for all of her children to accept the gift of the seed of love in our lives, to be nourished and grow into a firm tree, dressed in the light of Christ to shine for others, especially at Christmas, to bear gifts and be a witness to others in darkness, to bring the gift of light and love to those in need and who do not know the love of God.
But to be able to give such a gift to others Our Lady reminds us that our hearts must be pure and unburdened by sin. When we exchange our sins for the gift of grace then the merciful love of God is born anew into the world. Love becomes alive in every heart which repents and seeks forgiveness. We give birth to Jesus and witness to the Holy Spirit anew in our lives when we choose to exchange our sins for redeeming grace.
It is not surprising that Our Lady gives her message for the world on the 25th day of each month, the same day we celebrate Christmas in the month of December. The birth of Jesus comes just after four weeks into the Church calendar. During the month of Advent we wait in joyful expectation and prepare for the coming of Christ.
The monthly Medjugorje messages of Our Lady can be looked on as “little” Christmases. Our Lady carries the word of God and delivers it with the assistance of her chosen “midwife” the seer Marija. This gift, this message of eternal life, is then disseminated as seed throughout the world. In prayer, we wait in joyful expectation for Our Lady’s message to be “delivered” on the 25th, the day dedicated by Our Lady to bring forth the Word.
The first book of Macabees (4 : 36-61) tells of the time when the sanctuary of God was rededicated and purified following its desecration and destruction by the enemies of Israel. The day of dedication was on the 25th day of the ninth month and the celebrations continued for eight days. Christians are familiar with this celebratory period. We call it the Christmas Octave.
There’s a lyric in a popular seasonal song that says: “I wish it could be Christmas every day!” It can and is, every time we celebrate Holy Mass. And every month with the help of Our Lady’s message we can give birth again to Jesus in our lives and become the growing Christmas Tree that she desires for all her children.
In previous messages Our Lady has spoken about the seed of prayer; the seed of faith; and that we become beautiful flowers from the seed of holiness.

• The 2011 Christmas tree in St Peter’s Square, raised next to the obelisk, is a spruce from the Zakarpattia region in Ukraine, 30.5 metres high and with a trunk of 56 centimetres in diameter. Its more than 700 branches will be decorated with 2,500 silver and gold-coloured baubles illuminated by white and yellow lights. The tree, a gift from the Republic of Ukraine, will be raised on December 5 and inaugurated on December 16 in the presence of the bishops of that nation. And this year the nativity scene, also in St Peter’s Square, will be dedicated Mary, the Mother of God. REPORT: MIRJANA HAS TESTIFIED TO VATICAN COMMISSION
• The Croatian newspaper Vecernji list reports in today’s edition that visionary Mirjana Dragicevic-Soldo appeared before the Vatican Commission studying the Medjugorje phenomenon a week ago on November 25, in Rome. She is supposedly the third visionary to have been called before the Commission. Ivanka Ivankovic-Elez and Vicka Ivankovic-Mijatovic are the others two seers to have testified.

God wants to....
A leper came to Jesus and pleaded on his knees: “If you want to” he said, “you can cure me.” Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him. “Of course I want to!” he said. “Be cured!” and the leprosy left him at once and he was cured. Mark 1 : 40-42Dear children! God wants to make you holy. Therefore, through me he is inviting you to complete surrender.
part message, April 25, 1988.
Gentle Jesus, here I am.
Holding on as best I can.
Knowing you will hear my prayer.
I’m in need of love and care .
You can heal me if you choose.
Say “Of course I want to!”
You can say to me “Be cured!”
You can make me new.
Gentle Jesus, here I stand.
Arms outstretched with open hands.
In my weakness, blind and lame.
Calling out your holy name.
You can heal me if you choose.
Say “Of course I want to!”
You can say to me “Be cured!”
You can make me new.
Gentle Jesus, here I kneel,
Knowing only you can heal,
Placing all my faith in you,
Praising all the good you do.
You can heal me if you choose.
Say “Of course I want to!”
You can say to me “Be cured!”
You can make me new.
